This was our first time at Timbuktu. When we arrived we
weren’t sure if we were at the proper entrance as the door is not marked. First impression
was a strong seafood smell as we opened the door. Upon
closer menu inspection we learned it was lobster night. Smells explained.

Well, we all had differing reactions on appearance and taste.
Ed- The crab-cake sandwich was amazing! Timbuktu is known for their crab-cakes and they do not disappoint. The fresh brioche roll was a treat and the side dish of coleslaw was right up my alley. The table even had a third S&P shaker filled with "Old Bay"style seasoning. Bonus. Overall the meal was excellent and highlights the strengths that this iconic Maryland restaurant has come to be known for.
Tanja- On first
impression it was a meh. My chicken cordon blue didn’t taste fresh made. Very
bland, I did ask for my sauce on the side, so dipping my bite did take it up a
bit, but not by much. The fries were great, perfectly cooked and plentiful. My
green beans however, first bit ended up in my napkin.
Offspring- For
the price this was one gristly cut of unseasoned beef. It was a perfect med cook though so
that’s something. The offspring is a mac and cheese expert and refused to eat
what was presented. As for the garlic mash? Well that was a hit at least. Thank goodness there
was a lot, cause that’s pretty much what she had for dinner. And what is up with that little limp garnish of kale?
Restaurant first
impression:
Are we here? We actually walked around the building making sure
we were at the right door.

Ed-
As expected. We decided to visit on a weeknight and it just happened to be Lobster night. The lobsters being served looked spot on and the tables were filled with happy customers. The crabcake was excellent and the beers were ice cold. I will re-visit on a different night and sit in another part of the restaurant to get the full effect.

Tanja-
eh. The
wait staff was friendly, but there was no clearing going on. The plates and
bowls had a cafeteria look that diminished the overall feel of the
meal.
